TOCS Chess Team Won Award in American Open Chess Tournament

I’d like to congratulate all my students and their parents who have attended the annual American Open Chess Championship this weekend. Our TOCS teams worked hard in the 2-day intense competition and had some successes.

In the Saturday tournament, our beginner players fared well in their groups; Daniel Wang won the fifth place in his section. Good job!

In the Sunday tournament, we had some experienced players competing. All the kids fought hard and did their best. Justin Ho managed to win his last round game when he had 1 second left. Good spirit! Siva and Owen each won a medal for their good performances. Our star player Andy Shi won 4 out of 5 games against the best players in his section and earned the third place. He got a giant trophy! With the together effort of our TOCS kids, we won a nice team trophy for the third place!

I’d like to thank all the parents for their dedication and help in the American Open. In addition, I would like to thank my dad for helping me organize the teams in both Saturday and Sunday, while I played in my own section of the American Open.

There are more tournaments coming up in the near future. I wish more kids can participate and share the success. This is also one of my important goals in teaching our TOCS chess class.

Once again, congratulations to everyone!

Thank you,

Simone Liao
Co-Teacher of TOCS Chess Class
